Emergency Preparedness: What to Do If an Elevator Malfunctions

Published on October 29, 2024 by Lubeck Elevators

Lubeck elevators are engineered with multiple layers of safety to prevent entrapments. However, in the rare event of a malfunction, it's important for passengers to stay calm and follow the correct procedures. Here is a guide to elevator emergency preparedness.

What to Do if You're Inside:

  1. Stay Calm: The elevator cabin is a safe space. It is securely held in place by multiple safety systems and has adequate ventilation. Do not panic.
  2. Use the Emergency Alarm/Phone: Press the alarm button to alert people outside. Use the built-in two-way phone to connect directly to our 24/7 emergency response center or building security.
  3. Do Not Attempt to Force the Doors: Never try to pry the doors open or escape through the ceiling hatch. This is extremely dangerous. The safest place to be is inside the cabin until help arrives.
  4. Wait for Trained Professionals: Our certified technicians are trained to perform rescues safely. They will arrive promptly to resolve the issue.

Lubeck's Built-In Safety Features:

Our elevators are equipped with advanced safety systems to handle emergencies:

  • Automatic Rescue Device (ARD): During a power failure, the ARD automatically takes over, moves the elevator to the nearest floor, and safely opens the doors.
  • Emergency Brakes: These mechanical brakes engage automatically if the elevator exceeds its rated speed, bringing the cabin to a safe stop.
  • 24/7 Monitoring: Our Lubeck Connect platform often alerts us to a problem before the passengers even need to press the alarm.

Safety is our highest priority. By understanding these procedures and trusting in the robust safety engineering of Lubeck Elevators, passengers can feel secure on every journey.
